It has been another rainy, smoggy and to say the least moist day in Beijing. This is the city where I spend all day sitting the hostel, stalking people on Facebook and eat food, because I consider the city as conquered. Yes, I feel like I been to every place all the tourists should go to and some more, but when I woke up this morning I suddenly remembered there is one major place I haven't been to so far; 798 Art District.
The art district is in an old area of Beijing, where there used to be military factories. Now, however, it's a thriving artistic community. Nice place, definitely worth using the day there, but bring food and drinks, every thing is WAY overpriced.
I was really lucky when I sat down at a café for some rest, and I got to meet the artist behind these sculptures - a nice Chinese couple who had two children. They were very fascinated that Norway had the sun all night and the northern lights. As the prosperous Chinese people they where (I wonder how much they paid for the second child) they of course bought me coffee. They also managed to take a whole lot of pictures of me and the grandma of the family, but I forgot, of course to take a picture of them.
It said "Made in China" all over these two statues, which is probably very true.
When I went to the art district I expected to see frustrated Chinese artists with "hard to understand"-art. 798 is nothing like that; 798 is the place for famous artists, that do well and are liked by the government. A disappointment to say the least, but than again this is China, not Norway.
I think this guy has understood something, but I'm not sure what.
At the end of the day my feet was really tired so I went to this foot massage place. I got a lovely hour long foot massage for only for 48 yuan. However, massage was not the only thing you could get there - as I quickly found out, the so called "happy ending" was a frequently used "therapy". If you know what I mean.
